Today Skype went official with the new version of its iPhone application that brings free video calling to all its subscribers. It works over both 3G and Wi-Fi networks the new Skype app even lets you have video calls with desktop users. Obviously video-calling has enjoyed remarkable success this year, accounting for 40 percent of all Skype-to-Skype minutes for the first six months so bringing it to the mobile world seems like the smart thing to do. Plus, being completely free of charge (though data transfer rates do apply) and with no Facetime-like restrictions it might actually become the video service to use.
